Canadian Idol spawns spin-off
Tomorrow, CTV will launch a weekly broadband-only spin-off called Canadian Idol: All Access. The nine-episode series will go live on demand at 4 pm ET on July 20 on the CTV broadband network.
Unlike the on-air series, All Access won't be hosted by Ben Mulroney. Instead, Canadian Idol roving reporter Dave Kerr (pictured) will handle the broadband show - which the net is billing as a third night of Idol programming.
The broadband series will include segments not shown on Idol, including what happens to a competitor after elimination; pundits deliberating the week's water cooler moments; behind-the-scenes footage from the show and the Idol mansion; home videos; and immediate reactions from competitors' families. One weekly feature segment will round out the show before teasing what the remaining Idol competitors are prepping for the following week.
CTV already produces a 15-minute broadband recap, Idol in 15, available the morning following each broadcast.
