Dell Canada and Intel have launched an online gumball machine for a shot at viral buzz.
The interactive sweepstakes, hosted at WinWithDell.com, lets users guess the number of gumballs in a 3D environment, using it - of course - to pass on the message about those bubble-gum-coloured new Dell Inspiron notebooks. As the mouse rolls over the gum machine, the site's background colour changes to match the eight new Dell hues.
Three players who come closest to guessing the correct number of gumballs without going over will win one of the notebooks, while the viral twist entails winning one for a friend. If a winner was referred to the contest by a friend, the referral sender wins a notebook as well.
Users can earn up to 66 guesses by visiting the site daily and signing up for newsletters from Dell and Intel - and they can earn unlimited guesses by setting up personal links and banners to refer friends to the contest site.
Ottawa-based Launchfire Interactive developed the promotion.
In yet another clever promotion by Canada's most-read free daily, Metro is honouring Elvis Presley for the 30th anniversary of when he really left the building back in 1977.
From today through August 16, those who pick up the TorStar-owned pub - whose total Canadian readership of its six editions stands at 846,000, according to NADbank - are being invited to find special "Remembering the King" PIN codes. The numbers lead to free downloads of one of Presley's hit songs each day of the promotion.
Partnering in the initiative is HMV Canada - which is sharing daily ads in Metro to promote the release of a three-CD "Introducing Elvis" collection.
Star Jones has a new daily series coming soon to CTVglobemedia's Court TV Canada sked. Star Jones - a guest-driven talk show covering pop culture, celebs, crime and justice - will premiere on Monday, August 20 in the 3 pm ET time slot. The one-hour show will air live, concurrent with Court TV in the US.
Star Jones served as legal correspondent for Today and NBC Nightly News, covering the Mike Tyson rape case and the Rodney King police brutality trial. Later, as a senior correspondent and chief legal analyst for Inside Edition, she covered the OJ Simpson trials. She co-hosted ABC's The View from 1997 to June 2006.
Rural series are key to the specialty net's fall lineup.
