Citytv, Omni moving to edge of Yonge-Dundas Square
Speculation has been rife about where Toronto-HQ'd Rogers Communications would put its recently acquired Citytv and Omni Television operations ever since CTVglobemedia acquired Citytv's famous Queen Street West digs. The answer came late last night, when Rogers announced plans to acquire a multi-level complex at the eastern edge of downtown Toronto's Yonge-Dundas Square.
Formerly known as the Olympic Torch, the complex's adjacency to the Times Square-like spot, where more and more entertainment events are taking place, is a logical choice, given Citytv's propensity for staging celebrity visits and performances. As well, opportunities abound for marketers to coordinate messages with events via the surrounding giant video boards.
"We think this building portrays the local, urban and diverse character of Citytv and Omni Television," explains Rogers Media president/CEO Tony Viner. "We were determined to find a location that would maintain the stations' presence in the local fabric of the city."
While no moving date was announced, the real estate deal is set to close some time next month.
