"Hockey has never looked better than on a Samsung HDTV, and we were looking for a unique way to promote this," says Howard Thomas, GM of Mississauga, Ont.-based Cheil Communications America. That's why the Samsung AOR developed the creative for a campaign that spotlights the electronics biggie's status as the official high-definition partner of Hockey Night in Canada.
Then the agency executed a strategic media buy - choosing OBN video boards near NHL hockey arenas in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton and Toronto. Set to remain in place until hockey season ends next April, Cheil's creative shows a Zamboni cleaning ice until a huge HNIC logo is revealed. Panning out, the spot shows that the image is actually on a television screen. Tagline: "Samsung. Official HDTV of Hockey Night in Canada."

TSN's NBA coverage will include 21 Raptors games, tipping off on Nov. 6 at 8 pm ET with The President's Choice Raptors Basketball: Toronto @ Milwaukee. Also, TSN will air a minimum of 17 playoff games, provide exclusive Canadian coverage of the NBA Finals and carry NBA All-Star Saturday Night, featuring the popular Slam Dunk Contest.
Rod Black and Brian Heaney will host the network's NBA studio show onsite at the ACC for Raptors home games, and from the TSN Studio during away games. Chuck Swirsky will again provide play-by-play, with Leo Rautins as game analyst.
Last season, TSN delivered a national per-game average audience of 154,000 viewers - a 29% increase over 2005/06, and the third most watched NBA season ever on TSN. All NBA games this season will be available in HD.
OLN will present season two of the hit series Ed's Up!, beginning Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 8 pm ET/9 pm PT. Ed Robertson - founding member of The Barenaked Ladies - will fly his Cessna plane to diverse locations across North America to try out a variety of real-life jobs.
During the 13 x 30 episodes, Ed will tackle many difficult and dirty tasks, including cleaning a busy emergency room, assisting an alligator biologist, joining a mechanic crew of oil-rig repairmen, and working in a slaughterhouse processing pigs. After each job, he will discuss his feelings about performing it.
