CanWest expands community publishing portfolio
CanWest MediaWorks Publications announced yesterday it has acquired three publication groups in Windsor-Essex County in southwestern Ontario: Phoenix Media Group, Cornerstone Publications and Sims Publications. The acquisitions bring CanWest's reach in the region to more than 30,000 homes, and its total community publications throughout Canada to 30.
The six new titles in CanWest's stable include three paid circulation weeklies (The Kingsville Reporter, The Tilbury Times and LakeShore News), two total market coverage weeklies (Shoreline Week and LaSalle Post) and the monthly Windsor Parent magazine. As well, CanWest has acquired the commercial printing assets of Sims Publications.
Bob Calvert has been appointed interim GM of the new Windsor Community Publishing Group. Reporting to CanWest Community Publishing division Rob Leuschner, Calvert will oversee operations while a search is underway for a permanent candidate for the position.
