APTN offers powerful December fare
The 2007 National Aboriginal Achievement Awards will air Dec. 20 at midnight (repeating Dec. 28 at 1 am). The event will be hosted by Adam Beach (Flags of Our Fathers - pictured) as 14 outstanding First Nations, Métis and Inuit achievers receive the coveted award.
The Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards will air Dec. 24 at 9 pm (repeating at midnight and on Dec. 25 at 4 pm). Hosted by Lorne Cardinal and Gabrielle Miller of Corner Gas, the gala will celebrate and showcase the accomplishments of Aboriginal recording artists.
Aboriginal Day Live, airing Dec. 25 at noon (repeating at 9 pm and Dec. 26 at 2:30 am), will cover the APTN Aboriginal Solidarity Day festivities, shot live from downtown Winnipeg, and feature an hour-long concert of high-profile Aboriginal performers.
Winnipeg Comedy Festival: Welcome to Turtle Island will air Dec. 19 at 7 pm (repeating Dec. 20 at 8 pm and Dec. 21 at 3 pm). The hour-long event is hosted by actor Graham Greene and will showcase North America's funniest First Nations comedians, including Don Burnstick, Howie Miller, Don Kelly, Art Napoleon and Gerry Barrett. More stand-up comedy from Gerry "The Big Bear" Barrett will be showcased on the Big Bear Comedy Show, airing Dec. 27 at 11 pm (repeating Dec. 28 at 6 pm).
On Dec. 26, the "Boxing Day Blowout" will begin at 3 pm with the Canadian premiere of the flick Black Cloud (repeating at 8 pm and midnight). The film tells the inspirational story of a young Navajo fighter as he vies for a spot on the US Olympic boxing team. At 5 pm, on Clean Fight, First Nations kickboxing champion Trevor "The Red Dragon" Queezenence struggles with life's many obstacles as he deals with his girlfriend, his trainer and diabetes. Following at 5:30 pm is Warriors: TKO (repeating at 10:30 pm, 11 pm and 11:30 pm), in which four fighters from two rival gyms train together and then fight one another.
