Canwest sends journalists bloody bookends
In one of the most intriguing promos in recent history, MiC's writers - and many of our colleagues across the country - received "evidence bags" earlier this week. Inside were busts of the Statue of Liberty covered in gooey movie blood - but no supporting news release.
An explanation of sorts arrived this morning. It's an official-looking missive from the NYPD accusing us, by name, of being in possession of a murder weapon. "The New York Police Department has announced that Terry Poulton, writer for Media in Canada, was recently found with a Statue of Liberty bookend in her possession. It was covered in blood and is believed to be the weapon used in the murder of David Connor. . . who was found bludgeoned to death in his bathtub," read the one I received.
A subsequent paragraph revealed the purpose of the intriguing caper: "Poulton's lawyers believe that clues to the real killer exist within the television series Damages." Yes, the fun initiative (developed in-house) is a promotion for the legal drama starring Glenn Close and Ted Danson, which arrives on Showcase on Feb. 18 at 10 pm ET/PT.
Hey, if the show's as attention-grabbing as Canwest's promotion, it should be a winner.
