Transcontinental cooks up website for recipe lovers

Transcontinental Media has launched RecipeFeast.com, an English version of its French-language recipe site, Recettes.qc.ca, which attracts more than a million web surfers every month.

"That doesn't mean we want to adapt content from the French site," says Jocelyne Morissette, consumer websites director, Transcontinental Media. "Our goal is to create a totally independent site that all English-speaking Canadians can enjoy."

The website boasts over 1,500 recipes, half of which originate from canadianliving.com. The rest are translated from Recettes.qc.ca, and the goal is to have that percentage grow to include 90% user-generated content. Recipefeast.com treats users to an easy-to-navigate design that offers a recipe search, a recipe of the day, a top 10 list, cooking tips and a local food guide.

Advertising opportunities on the site are offered in a mélange of formats, including buttons, banners, section sponsorships and product placement on the plate.

Branchez-Vous adds movie website

Branchez-Vous is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its Showbizz.net property by acquiring the French-language movie site LeCinema.ca.

Canada's largest French-language Internet ad network, Branchez-Vous operates over 200 francophone websites and reaches approximately 3 million people monthly.

"LeCinema.ca will strengthen our Showbizz.net site by giving it a new dimension", says Branchez-Vous CEO Patrick Pierra. "Showbizz.net covers entertainment news on a daily basis, while LeCinema.ca provides reference information to moviegoers."

LeCinema.ca offers Quebec movie fans news, reviews, trailers, photos and info about highly anticipated movies, plus listings. The site is targeted to adults 18-44 who have college degrees, and has been reaching more than 120,000 cineastes monthly.

Notes from the Mediascape: A singing magazine?

Not really. But some sort of bar must have been raised last week, when People magazine embedded tiny batteries and speakers in its middle pages. When readers flipped them over, they heard Natasha Bedingfield warbling her latest pop song.

The musical initiative was staged by Verizon Wireless to promote its new music download service.
