Corus's Baker wins NABS Humanitarian Award

Angie Baker, general sales manager at Corus Entertainment, is the 2008 recipient of the Paul Mulvihill/NABS Humanitarian Award.

The award, which consists of a unique hand-crafted glass sculpture and two $2,500 cheques - to be donated in Baker's name to the charity of her choice, The Children's Treatment Centre in Cornwall, Ont., and to NABS Canada - was presented yesterday at the National Advertising Benevolent Society's annual fundraising gala in Toronto.

Baker was recognized for outstanding volunteer contributions for many charitable and community groups in the Cornwall area over the past 14 years. Her professional career began with Tri-Co Broadcasting as an account executive in the sales department with local radio stations Variety 104.5, ROCK 101.9 and AM 1220. A few years later she was promoted to general sales manager. She joined Corus Entertainment in 2001.

"I am truly honoured and humbled to have been chosen to receive such a wonderful award in memory of Paul Mulvihill, and would like to thank NABS Canada and the Paul Mulvihill Foundation," Baker said. "As part of the communication industry, we are given a louder voice than most, and I believe it is our duty to use it for the benefit of those who might not be heard, but who desperately need our help and support."

Added Claire Macdonald, publisher of strategy, which has been the media partner of the NABS Humanitarian Award for the past six years: "The Paul Mulvihill/NABS Humanitarian Award is one of the most meaningful in this industry, and we are proud of our association with it. NABS and the Paul Mulvihill Charitable Foundation carry on the work and beliefs of a man who devoted his life to giving to others."
