YTV gets Indie
Corus Entertainment's YTV has added the comedic live-action series How to be Indie to its fall 2009 lineup. The show targets 6- to 12-year-olds and their parents by telling the story of a 13-year-old girl facing the trials and tribulations of being a teen while balancing her family's South Asian traditions with her Canadian lifestyle. The producers hope that the show will appeal to tweens by touching on feelings of confusion, embarrassment, passion and joy, as well as the struggle to fit in without compromising your identity - an issue that many kids can relate to.
Produced by Toronto-based Heroic Film Company, Indie was created by Vera Santamaria (whose writing credits include Degrassi: The Next Generation, Instant Star, Naturally Sadie and Little Mosque on the Prairie) and Heroic executive producers John May and Suzanne Bolcher. The show will start filming this fall.
